Written & Guided by Travis Bishop - 4th-generation Bisbee native and owner of Big Jeep Tours
Who is Travis?
"I'm a 4th-generation Bisbee native who was born in Bisbee in 1966. My great-grandfather 'GG' arrived in 1913 and worked in the Lowell Mine. I graduated from Bisbee High School in 1984, went to college at N.A.U., and raised a family in Phoenix. I moved back to Bisbee in 2015, and I lead tours to share the remarkable history of my hometown, Bisbee, Arizona - because I think Bisbee needs more attention."
“Why I love this tour” - a personal note from Travis
"I love this tour because of the incredible colors on display. We get vibrant orange, peach, pink, yellow, and purple when the sun sets behind the Huachuca Mountains. Plus, the chances of seeing wildlife increase. We've seen Black-tailed Rattlesnake, Coues Deer, Gould's Turkey, and Coatimundi on this tour."
Off-Road Mountain Climbing: Scaling the Peaks of Juniper Flats
As the day begins to fade, your open-air Jeep tackles the rugged, winding 2.5-mile off-road climb up to Juniper Flats for an unforgettable Arizona sunset. Reaching the high-elevation country just as the sky catches fire, the desert landscape drops away to reveal southern Arizona’s most spectacular 360-degree panorama.
Bathed in a warm, golden glow, you will stand in awe of sweeping views stretching across the Chiricahua, Huachuca, Santa Rita, Whetstone, and Rincon Mountains. Peer out across the valley to see Douglas, the winding border wall, and a breathtaking 150-mile vista reaching deep into the jagged peaks of Mexico.
Up here, the quiet juniper woodlands feel worlds away from the streets of historic Bisbee below. As the desert cools, the local wildlife stirs - keep your eyes peeled for Coues deer, hawks, coatimundi, or even an elusive black bear emerging at dusk. Your guide, Travis, knows these ridge lines by heart; having hunted Mearns quail here as a boy with his father, his deep personal stories bring the history of the land alive with his deep personal stories as the stars begin to peer out. This peaceful, high-country sunset stop is the ultimate finale to your Bisbee adventure.

TESTIMONIAL
My family went on the Sunset Tour of Juniper Flats. We all had a great time. Travis is an incredible tour guide. He is knowledgeably and good company. My kids want to go on another tour soon. Being from Southern Arizona, I didn't know what I would learn from the tour, but it was very educational. The views were spectacular. We saw wild turkey and my kids were excited to find turquoise. We look forward to touring again with Travis.
