Yes. This is a mild, pavement-only tour with no off-roading or strenuous walking. The Jeep is easy to get in and out of, and we go at a comfortable pace.

The Jeep is fully enclosed and comfortable in rain or cold weather. We only cancel in extreme conditions (heavy snow or dangerous ice).

Can the tour be customized?

Yes. If you have special interests (more photography time, ghost stories, architecture details, etc.), just let us know when booking and we’ll tailor the tour accordingly.

Where does the tour start?

We offer free pickup anywhere within Bisbee city limits. You can also meet us at 10 Copper Queen Plaza in the heart of Old Bisbee.

Is tipping the guide customary?

Tipping is always appreciated but never expected. If your guide (Travis) delivers an outstanding experience, a gratuity is a great way to say thank you.

you'll Climb Old Bisbee Without Climbing The Stairs

The Bisbee Downtown Tour by Big Jeep Tours is a private, 90-minute narrated Jeep tour in Bisbee, Arizona, focused on the town’s hilly suburb, Old Bisbee, and its mining history, historic district, architecture, narrow streets, and iconic art.

Led by Travis, a 4th-generation Bisbee local, the mild, pavement-only tour (no off-roading) stays in Old Bisbee. It winds through narrow hillside streets lined with century-old homes, businesses, and stairways, with photo stops at scenic overlooks. You’ll hear stories about copper-boom history, architecture, notable residents, and local ghost lore.

You'll visit the red Light District, the affluent start of Bisbee called Quality Hill, and see Italianate Revival, Art Deco, Colonial Revival, Queen Anne, Gothic Revival, and Renaissance Revival architecture throughout the tour. Two elevated photo stops also provide panoramic views of Tombstone Canyon and the mining valley.

Heading 3

Old Bisbee

Your tour begins in Old Bisbee at our default pickup location or your choice of guest pickup.

You’ll travel to OK Street to see the first jail, Lyric Theater, Pythian Castle, and the oldest miners’ homes from the late 1870s and early 1880s.

Your jeep then heads into Brewery Gulch, where you’ll learn about the historic red-light district, scary stairs, and the timber that once covered the Mule Mountains.

Next, we cruise through the bar district—home to Arizona’s oldest continuously operating bar, the Art Walk Wall, and the Muheim Block. Your guide once saw a rock superstar perform in the Muheim Block basement in 1983.

The Big Jeep circles Gretchen Bonaduci’s Cornucopia Cafe (a great lunch spot) and climbs Howell Avenue past the Copper Queen Hotel, Presbyterian Church, YWCA, YMCA (Carrick Hotel), and Central School with its Renaissance Revival architecture.

After more childhood stories from your guide, we head up the hill to Old Bisbee High School, once home to 2,500 students who received copper diplomas.

From there, we reach the high elevations with photo stops on Quality Hill and the High Road overlook, offering views 100 miles into Mexico.

The tour culminates with a visit to Quality Hill, St. Patrick’s Church, and the Cochise County Courthouse before heading down Main Street.

What Do I Need To Bring?

Sun Protection
- Bisbee is a little closer to the sun at around 5500 ft elevation for our tours. Hats are encouraged along with sunscreen and sunglasses.
Layered Clothing
- Although average temperatures are generally mild, wind and different tour start and ending times could be chilly.
Insect Repellent
- Bisbee has No-See-Ums, especially during the monsoon season. Bring along a strong insect repellent or stay covered up.
Comfortable, Closed-Toe Shoes
- There is minimal walking of a few yards on some tours, with plenty of photo stops. Unfortunately, Harvester Ants call Bisbee home and pack a painful sting. Closed-toe shoes are a great idea.
