John Campbell Greenway

  • Built the Greenway House in 1908.

  • John C. Greenway was the general manager of the Calumet & Arizona Mining Company in Warren, Arizona.

  • Mr. Greenway attended Yale University and was a start athlete - QB in football and All-American catcher on the baseball team.

  • Mr. Greenway fought alongside and befriended fellow Rough Rider Theodore Roosevelt at the 1898 Battle of San Juan Hill.

  • Teddy Roosevelt was a sometimes visitor to the Greenway House.

  • Mr. Greenway helped establish the town of Ajo, Arizona.

  • He also served on the University of Arizona Board of Regents.

  •  A statue of Mr. Greenway is at the Polly Rosenbaum Archives and History Building near the Arizona State Capitol in Phoenix.

  • Greenway Road in Phoenix, Arizona, Greenway High School in Phoenix, Greenway Public Schools in Coleraine, Minnesota, Greenway School in Bisbee, Arizona, and Greenway Township, Itasca County, Minnesota are named in his honor.
