Copper is a chemical element, designated by the symbol Cu and atomic number 29, with an atomic weight of 63.546 atomic mass units (AMU). Historically significant, copper was highly valued by ancient Egyptians, symbolized by the ankh to represent eternal life in their hieroglyphs.
